The Day Before.... The Day Of.....

I have What to Expect on Election Night podcasting on my phone, which is sitting on my desk next to Lenore the Lenovo.  I'm trying to distract myself by writing this post, but my brain is on a one lane, no u-turn road.

My dreams have been incredibly vivid and confusing and sticking with me through the morning.

I'm trying to convince my stomach to accept food.  The hard boiled egg with horseradish aioli is talking back to me.  I don't think it's the egg.  I think it's the election.

I listened to the 538 podcast culling the results of the final, before the election, polls.  They started out by saying that Biden has a 90% chance of winning, Dems have a 76% chance of taking the Senate, and there's a 94% chance that Dems will retain control of the House.  That was one sentence.  They spent the next 29 minutes making me nervous about those stats.

What to Expect just told me that very few concerns have been raised by callers to their HelpLine; most calls are about where and how to vote.  They're extolling the virtues of their Voter Protection program.  They feel confident.

Talking heads are calling Trump's outrageous statements a sign of desperation, noise, nonsense...... but Bill Barr is still at DOJ.

I can't decide if watching people talk about it is better than living in my head with it.

I'm very grateful to my family group text for an hour or so spent considering the difficulties of teaching in/on/at to non-English speakers.  Brother's diagram was helpful

but not dispositive.

Opinions - on the ice cream not the election! - are welcomed below.

Anything. Anything at all to distract me.

These are going to be the longest hours of my life.

  1. There's not a chance i will watch. I have enough problems keeping my bp down, and real results might be weeks away. We bought a second copy of the dvd Australia, which we had left in Oregon; so it's on the schedule. It didn't rate highly when it was out but we like it for the scenery, the cast, and the time in which it as set, as well as that it explores some complex human issues.

However this election turns out, I just hope people can let it go and hope that whoever wins gets a chance to try to govern without all the snark for a while at least. I've had enough of that to last me a lifetime. On FB, I had a guy, with whom I disagreed, and I told him we would just have to agree to disagree. He came back with he'd never do that. I wrote back then he'd have to argue with himself. No reply to that :)

  2. Arguing with myself is what's been going on in my head for weeks. I am distracting myself with Walter Mosely's books, but The Awkward Black Man is a series of short stories, so I keep coming up for(foul) air.

  3. I will not watch the news today or even tomorrow, especially tomorrow if there is a chance for the incumbent winning. Even if he loses, there will be hell to pay. I cannot take the stress. Even discussed it with my doctor at yesterday's annual exam. She agreed, stay away from the news. It changes nothing and certainly doesn't help your sense of well-being.

  4. I know that it really would be better to stay away from the news today but I've decided to wallow in it instead. I'll putter around and get a few little things done, while eating food that we don't usually keep in the house (potato chips, diet Dr. Pepper and ice cream). If the horrible happens and all the polls are wrong again so that eventually we know that IMPOTUS is re-elected, THEN I'll stop watching the news. The best comment I saw on a WAPO story yesterday - SCOTUS better watch out, dictators don't need judges. Crossing all the fingers and toes for Biden!

  5. Those words are sort of like dans and sur in French. I used them randomly while on vacations. My French was so bad, I am certain I generally sounded deranged.
I am short of breath today, it's anxiety.

  6. Rain has returned to the PNW so we are inside, cleaning house and doing laundry. I am hoping that the house cleaning extends to the White House.
I will turn on the TV about 3:00 here to catch Rachel and company of MSNBC, 6:00 eastern time. I won't be glued to the tv, but I can't help watching. I just have to know what there is to know.
