What's Going On

I can't turn on the news.  I know it's a distraction technique, but the fact that he says he won't leave the White House has put me over the edge.

It was the headline in our normally locally focused hometown newspaper.  I couldn't escape it, even over oatmeal and banana.  I couldn't get to the comics and Ask Amy fast enough.

It seems to me that early voting on paper ballots is the safest way to avoid Russian tampering with the results.  I think that's why Trump is repeating the lies about fraud and deception - the Russians are at a disadvantage if there is a paper trail.

But it doesn't really matter what he says, because there are only two sets of Americans listening right now - those who love him and those who hate him.  Those who have made up their minds and don't care about the minutiae have tuned out entirely... I have friends who fall in that space.

So his mad ravings serve to fuel the fires of distrust and hate on his side, and to stoke the burning souls of those of us who possess a conscience.

The fact that there are no laws under which the Attorney General could charge the officers who murdered Breonna Taylor ..... the fact that the RNC is working with state legislatures to replace duly elected electors with those favorable to Trump.... the fact that 200,000+ Americans have perished and we still don't have a plan.....

Like I said, I can't turn on the news.

  1. Yes, I know. But I also can't hide my head in the sand. I am compelled, required by my citizenship, to be informed. And in being informed, I refuse to be overreactive. Chaos is what Trump sows. It's what he wants. Stay steady. Use common sense. Be reasonably hopeful. Find other sources of joy. But then you know all of this already. It really is what you do.

    1. Thank you for the smack up side of my head!
He's saying all this bc he knows he's losing and it shakes his narcissistic soul. Watching him being booed at the Supreme Court was transcendent for me - he was faced with reality for the first time and it hurt.

  2. In our state they can't start processing mail in and absentee ballots until Election Day. I'm terrified the office will be overwhelmed and a winner proclaimed before they are all counted.

I may mail my ballot in. I may go to the polls. I have a couple of weeks to decide.

    1. In AZ, dropping off your mail in ballot on election day puts it in the provisional box - they have to check to be sure you didn't vote in person beforehand. To be sure it's counted in a timely fashion, you have to drop it off or mail it earlier.

  3. I asked the Secretary of State (automated email) when they would count ballots and they replied: Ballot tabulation may begin as early as 14 days prior to an election [A.R.S. § 16-550(B)]. So, hopefully they will do that and we can avoid the delay we saw with McSally vs. Sinema. Did you EVER think you would have a president who said he would not leave office?

    1. We are used to mail in voting. It's the states that are setting it up for the first time that worry me.... and our County Recorder.

  4. Counties here in the San Joaquin Valley started all mail-in balloting last year and it has worked very well. There are drop-off sites all over the county for ballots if one decides to not put it in the mailbox. I'm hopeful it will all go very smoothly for this important election. And, I'm hoping for a major landslide that will just push that horrible man right off the face of the earth. (can you tell I'm getting very fed up?!!)
