June

And now, it seems, that June will bring more than summertime.  According to an important person speaking on NPR (I missed her introduction), by June, every American who wants one will have a vaccination.

I wasn't prepared for June.

When I took the plane home from San Francisco on March 12th the airports were empty.  I watched the screenshots of the airports last weekend and I was horrified, then quietly calm.  This is why I have to wait until June to visit my grandchildren.  People just don't listen.

I can't imagine that every single one of those people will quarantine for 14 days to be certain that they are not contaminating those they've traveled to visit.  Certainly, each and every one of them has come into close sustained contact with an infectious person among all those crowds.

Did they refrain from hugging while waiting, shoulder to shoulder, at baggage claim?

Did each and every one of them wear a mask at all times, staying socially distant from loved ones?

This is why I have to wait until June.  Knowing the reason helps, a little.

  1. You are exactly right. We all have to wait, because people just don't listen. And damn them all!

  2. Far too many are crying about their freedom and totally forgetting their responsibility. There have always been those who think rules are for other people.
It broke my heart when my grandson said "Last summer my dad died, this summer lots of people die from COvid, what's gonna happen next summer?"

    1. Oh, Olga. And you probably can't hug him, either :-(
The number of grown ups who act like adolescents - all freedom, no responsibility - is very disappointing.

  3. I wish I could be optimistic that we'll all have our shots by June. I really want to go somewhere - at this point, I don't even much care where. I have co-workers who have traveled and eat in restaurants regularly. We're getting take-out, but no hope of eating there anytime soon. I wish I could just do what I want with no regard for anyone else, but that's not me. I hope we all can get our vaccinations (and I hope everyone does!), but it looks like it's going to be an annual shot like the flu shot. So much anti-vax sentiment out there. Maybe having a president who believes in science will help? I dunno.

    1. Elvis got his polio shot on television. I don't know who has that kind of universal appeal to a vulnerable demographic, but beyond that, I think we ought to pay people to get the shot. Boost the economy while healing a nation.... who would turn down $1000 and free health care?
