I spent the day housecleaning at The Burrow.
I wonder what you think.
Is the new look distracting or peaceful? Does Click Here For More make you nutty or do you like seeing lots of posts all at once? Does the new font make it easier to read, or are my words fading into the background? Did you notice that I'm posting at 12am instead of 6am? Do you care?
Comments, please. I really want to know.
It's fun to play with blogs and mostly you have to please you with how it works with one exception-- the click more one. I personally don't like it because if I came there, I planned to read the whole piece or at the least skim to the bottom. I guess for those who make money based on counts, it makes sense. It also is good for people who headline read and wouldn't click for more on anything as it makes it load faster. Due to time constraints, I am down to only reading a couple of blogs (at the most) and the ones I still check are ones I want to read all of what they said. So I'll click for more but would prefer not to have to due to it taking more time. Of course, I could save time by not replying and most I read, I don't. Sometimes though an opinion is just required lol.
ReplyDeleteThat's hope I feel about it... Why make me work for it? I wondered if an occasional refer might like it more, and it was an option I hadn't tried before.
DeleteMay I say that I am flattered to be among those you read?!?!

I don't like the click for more. On most blogs that have that, I don't click. I just move on. Most times your piece is interesting enough to keep me going, however, sometimes you put something really good in the second half. I would miss that with that click for more thing.
ReplyDeleteI've taken out the page breaks I inserted. You and Rain typed what I always think. Why I don't listen to myself is a question worthy of further study!

I don't like the click for more either. It'd be different if you were linking to some other site, though that's also very annoying. Otherwise it looks nice. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI'm taking them out, Opus. I don't like them either. I link to other sites all the time; should I make it "Open in New Window"?
Deletea/b
Linking to other sites as you often do is fine. What I grumbled about is linking to the "rest of this post over at soandso.com" Grrr
DeleteI like the font. It's very clean and easy to read. I would take the banner all the way over to the right of the blog. Let me know if you want me to size the artwork for you. It will literally take me a couple of minutes. :)
ReplyDeleteOne other thing I would change--if you can, is to put a border around the blog to separate it out from the gray background. It will make the blog pop more.
Just my two cents. :)

The templates are standardized. I'm still looking for the way to move the header and resize it. I will ask for your help FOR SURE if I can't find it.
DeleteYou're the pro - your two cents are worth $2

I'm here if you need me. :) xxx
DeleteI dislike "click for more" intensely. I like links that open in a new window, frequently I'll move between the blog and the linked item more than once. I'm 63, can't see anything closer to me than the length of my arm. The new font is difficult for me, it's rather small. So that's my three cents.
ReplyDeleteAnd a bigger font will arrive tomorrow, Allison. Thanks for pointing that out. This font is thinner than the old one; I'll be playing with it tonight.
DeleteClick for More is gone.

I like blogs that are clean and simple to use and view. If I have to click here or there, I check out. Otherwise I really like visiting you.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love it when you visit, Maryellen Bess! So the extra click is a thing of the past.
DeleteNow, is the new Burrow clean, simple, and easy to use?

I vote against Click for More also. It does look clean but I like larger fonts. The old eyes are not what they used to be. A border might be a good idea too. I have to laugh at you. I sometimes spend hours messing with my blog format. Sometimes I do crazy things and then can't get it back to normal. Learning and trying new things is good for our brains so my comments are just in response to your request for comments.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am thankful, grateful, and smiling that so many of my readers took the time to help! I'm going to enlarge the font and see if I can find a border on the template.
DeleteI was thrilled that there was a button labeled APPLY TO BLOG. It let me play without making any permanent changes. I think there's a history button, too, if I want the old one back, but I haven't discovered it, yet.
Thanks for commenting!

Yes, bigger and bolder font does make it easier to read. Thanks for taking those comments into consideration.
DeleteThanks, dkzody, for letting me know.

Change is good, I'm just glad you're here everyday, A/B! ♥️
ReplyDeleteI was feeling stuck, T'Mom, so I started to shake things up.
DeleteI'm glad I'm here, too, kiddo <3

You may be wondering about this stranger who popped up into your comments. I don't think I have ever commented before. Your blog is one of the first things I read to start my day. You have the gift of telling a story. I like the results of your blog redesign.
ReplyDeleteI saw on your sidebar that you have started reading Kerry Greenwood's books. I've read them all and watched the DVDs. Loved them both, but the two versions have some differences. Phrynne Fisher's love life is WA-A-AY different in the books. You might want to read the books in order to see how that develops. Enjoy!
Well, hello Neena! I will now include you in the faces I imagine reading The Burrow in the early morning :-)
DeleteI am considering investing in the Kindle version of the books; my library doesn't have all of them and I have reader's remorse that I have only read one. Her sexuality is one of our favorite parts of the tv shows; she is honest and forthright and friendly and gorgeous!
