What about those I know to be both good, kind, solid, wonderful, loving people and supporters of Donald Trump... or those who I imagine are supporting Donald Trump but know enough not to mention it to me? I get that they hate Hillary; I can't figure out how they could support Trump.
I don't know why I care. They are not annoying me on social media. They are not wearing buttons or hats proclaiming that they'll Make America Great Again (which I like marginally more than America First, with its not-so-very-hidden Nazi connotations). I could ignore the whole thing... unless it comes up in conversation.
I don't think I could keep still.
I didn't have an answer until I heard P.J. O'Rourke's comment on NPR. O'Rourke is a Conservative satirist, a great writer, a very funny man. He gave me the perfect response:
Yes, I'm endorsing Hillary, the second worst thing that could happen to this country, but she's way behind in second place. ... I mean she's wrong about absolutely everything,, but she's wrong within normal parameters. And so, still glowing, reflecting the joy on her face last night, I'll endorse her, too. Feel free to share my hashtags.

I got goose bumps when she came on stage after the voting ended. She was so radiant. I was for Bernie, but will gladly support her,
ReplyDeleteOh, so did I. Those young women in the audience were never refused a credit card because they weren't married, never told they couldn't teach kindergarten while pregnant (my Mom, carrying me), never denied a job b/c women didn't do that (Sandra Day O'Connor after finishing law school.)
DeleteBernie pushed Hillary to the left, and that is a good thing in my mind. She is imperfect, but I thinks she's grown. More on this in tomorrow's post.

Thanks for the O'Rourke reference. I am encouraged to know that there are those out there who may have nothing good to say about Hillary but who still see the need to block Trump.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Olga :-)
DeleteI wish I had a better alternative but I don't; hence I'm #Settling4Hillary

I don't like Hillary but come November, I will have to vote for her. I dread having to listen to her though over the next five years lol. As for Trump, of course, there are good people who support him. They just have things that matter to them that are different. I know quite a few of them.
ReplyDeleteYou know how I feel. ;) I was so dismayed and heartbroken on Sunday when my Dad and his wife said they are voting for Trump. I literally felt physically ill. I love them dearly, but so disappointed in them. You may have seen the meme on my Facebook page. The Simple Truth? Those who have decided to support this lying, character-less hustler as their favorite candidate for President of the United States, have told us a great deal about themselves.
ReplyDeleteThat pretty much sums it up for me. If you vote for him, you agree with him and are a racist, bigot.
Sending hugs!
