And Still...

Some numbers go up, some go down. Mostly they go in the direction of health,  but that's usually followed by something else to worry about.

The physicians are alarmingly young. The only grey hair to be found is on the patients.

The staff is an interesting collection of Americans from all over the globe, all respecting the particular hierarchy of their niche.  Techs defer to nurses.  Fellows defer to Attendings. We've only been visited by one student, and that only after her supervisor asked our permission.

That's all I can think of.  Hospitals are exhausting, even for visitors.

  1. Yes, hospitals are no fun. I get out as fast as I can, but sometimes you just have to wait it out. I'm sorry you are tethered there now.

As for those young doctors, they give me hope. Such a variety of young people, doing very good work, being their very brightest and best. Or, such is the scene at Stanford. I don't always see that level at the hospitals (or even medical offices) here in Fresno.

My hairdresser is shifting careers (a whole 'nother story) and is currently in an internship at the Kaiser medical center here. That, too, is another story in itself. She offers a bright spot in the day for many patients in an overworked, understaffed, and what I believe poor quality, medical facility. Every story she tells just seems to verify my belief.
