We're in Marin, watching grandbabies while their parents celebrate a wedding with friends. We have given them the chance to sleep in a hotel, without crying children or nap times or diapers.
Of course, that left us with crying children, diapers, naps and years of experience to draw upon. Along with those years of experience come years of life.... seven decades plus of life..... life that has become accustomed to doing what we want when we want and not answering to anyone else.
Unfortunately, that doesn't work with little ones. Their needs are immediate, intense, and announced with volume and passion.
They cannot be ignored. They do not have the means to address what's disturbing them, not without assistance.
And so, for 90 very long minutes, TBG and I shuttled between bedrooms and bottle warmers and diaper changes, holding a crying infant, reassuring a big sister that we wouldn't leave her room until she was asleep, passing like sinking ships in the night.
There's a reason humans age out of child bearing.
My grandbabies are now in their early 20's. I am ahead of you in this process. I am even older. :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope to be around to see how these kids turn out!
