It's enshrined in the Constitution.
It shouldn't matter if your parents came here without papers. If you popped out somewhere in these United States, you're automatically ours.
And that is a very good thing, as Brother pointed out. As our family lore has it, Bubba's sister was the one who was supposed to go to America, but she got scared and didn't want to leave. So my grandmother took her place, using the paperwork, with no one the wiser.
Is the Administration suggesting that everyone descended from her line should be sent back to whatever former SSR holds my great grandparents' birthplace?
And that leads me to wondering about the Drumf family. Were the parents citizens when the Orange Menace arrived on the scene?
I know, I know, the case going to the Supreme Court is technically about a nationwide injunction. But just talking about it makes me queasy.
I'll be at the Tesla Take Down on Saturday, with a giant American flag. I'll be in Tucson's No Kings car parade at the same time FFOTUS is watching tanks rip up the streets of DC.
I cannot sit by and watch this happen. I don't know what else to do.
The fact that SCOTUS is even considering this, the technicality not withstanding, is mind-boggling. The Constitution could not be more clear if a person is born in the US they are a citizen, period.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It shouldn't even be something that needs to be argued, and yet, here we are with this madman and his henchmen at the helm.
DeleteThis will not stand, but it will serve Trump once again by causing fear. I'll be out with my sign on anti-parade day too. Not sure about tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYAY! Glad to know you'll be among us at the alternative birthday party!
