Enough

I don't usually read Trump related books; they raise my anxiety and fill my mind with evil thoughts.  I don't usually read contemporaneous autobiographies; they are more hagiography than reflective.

But Cassidy Hutchinson intrigues me.  Her life story came through on the library reserve list and I've spent the last 24 hours with her.  I'm impressed.

She reminds me of Little Cuter in a lot of ways.  She's got binders and folders labeled and at the ready.  She's a natural networker.  She knows who to ask to get things done.  She knows everyone.

But that's where the similarities end, because my girl knows right from wrong and wouldn't associate herself with people or an organization she found to be untrustworthy.  It took Ms Hutchinson quite a while to get there.

She never addresses the misbehaviors, beyond a brief reference to the wrong phone call with Prime Minister Zelensky. She's uneasy about Mark Meadows's burning documents in his office fireplace, but that comes well after the election.  There were four years before that, and they were not error free.

Her search for a lawyer when she had no money and nothing to use as collateral for a loan is heartbreaking.  The carrot and stick game Trump World played with her is frightening and creepy.  There are heroes in her story, chief among them Liz Cheney, the lawyers she eventually engaged, and Alexander Butterfield.

If you're too young to remember Watergate, you can google him here.  For the rest of us, yes, that Alexander Butterfield.  It's worth reading the whole book just to get to the role he played in returning her to the straight and narrow.

It's an easy read, comfortably written, without grammatical mistakes or extraneous detail.  It's well presented .... just like Cassidy Hutchinson

  1. I didn't remember her story so I Googled for a quick refresher. Crossing Trump is a dangerous game, but more people need to tell the truth, even when it hurts.

  2. The smartest (and bravest) thing Ms Hutchinson did was get rid of that Trump provided lawyer and get her own.
