Anonymous commented on yesterday's post, that it matters where you get your news. They (using a non-gendered pronoun) heard that when flying back from Alaska, Trump said he was calling those European leaders and they were invited. To add to it, he called Putin after the meeting to tell him what was done as he said he had promised he would do.
Others agreed with my reply: I believe nothing that comes from the White House.
Misinformation influencing foreign policy is nothing new (Teddy Roosevelt's Remember the Maine? Mission Accomplished?). What we are witnessing now, though, is a total disregard for facts (D.C.'s crime rate? mail in ballot fraud? 7 wars ended?) across the spectrum.
The man picks up a Sharpie and all of a sudden hurricane Dorian is hitting Alabama.

So, even though it's really trivial in the grand scheme of things, I think it makes a difference whether the foreign leaders were invited by President Zelensky or FFOTUS.
Wow, blogger has changed things and I no longer have to add anonymous. Anyway, that was me and too lazy to change it. My point is it does matter where we get our news. It's not just that they lie. It's what they leave out, and in my opinion, it's on both sides. Hence, I try to check both when I care enough. And it's not new, but it should be for us to depend on the news somewhere. 1440 is better than many for that. I've had enough problems this month with minor health irritations, like loud ear ringing, and on it goes, that I haven't done as much research as usual. But if we believe the leaders lie, like Biden and now Trump, it's maddening to figure out anything considering that it can be a matter of life and death and not those little irritants, which I have research more than I want.
ReplyDeleteI am weary of the "both sides lie" stuff. No, they don't. (See comment above) Reliable fact checkers show that.
ReplyDeleteWhile sometimes statements are shown later to be mistaken, that's not the same as lying. Donald Trump is the liar in chief. He is a solipsistic narcissist. Only his mind matters and if he says it then it's true.
it all depends on where you get your news and what you find suits your expectations. I did a quick look at Biden and found this: https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/list/?category=&ruling=false&speaker=joe-biden -- As far as /trump goes, I am sure you can also find lies or when he's just wrong. Looks like it's back to anonymous, but I am Rain.
DeleteIf tRump is speaking, it is a lie. His cronies are the same, they back up everything the bumpkin says.
ReplyDeletei did not save the link, but to show Politifact goes after both sides, you can see trump's lies there also. Finding honest leaders if not easy or if they are, they don't get elected.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, tho we come to it from different perspectives, I see her point. The economic points I repeat from the more liberal sources I read are often demolished by TBG, who understands it much better than I do.
