Are you F'ing kidding me? NO!
I forget which elected official on Capitol Hill responded that way when asked if I forget which of The Dictator to Be's Cabinet nominees were qualified for the post.
It makes perfect sense to me.
With a felon in the White House, why is it surprising that his chief law enforcement officer is involved in a number of ethics scandals?
When the guy running the show thinks soldiers are suckers, a defense secretary who worries that America’s white sons and daughters are walking away (from serving in the military) and who can blame them seems totally on brand.
Private prison stocks have risen 70% since the election, reinforced by the fact that Tom Homan seems destined to be the new Border Czar. (Was there an old Border Czar?)
Elon Musk wants to work for the government he wants to down-size by a third. (Isn't there some kind of conflict of interest here since the government funds almost all of Space X?)
Melania refused Jill's invitation to visit the White House. (Rude.)
I have not watched MSNBC or the nightly news nor read the front page of the local paper or the news websites nor listened to anything but fluff on NPR and yet all of that filtered through.
It is going to take great fortitude to get through these next four years.
I echo your thoughts. I am a news junkie but haven't watched or read or listened to news since the morning after the election. I am also unsure how I will get through the next four years plus. aargh.
ReplyDeleteWe have so much free time! We miss it but my bp does not.

My reaction was the same. "Are you f**king kidding me?" That was when I read about Hegseth, it got worse with Gabbard and Gaetz, The worst of the worst. And all were the top finishers in the "suckup Olympics". What a mess.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, you wrote this before RFKjr and Vivek and Elon and oh my god

Yeah, you are right, sadly.
DeleteWe knew it would be bad and get much worse. It is and it will. Fortify yourself and try not to seek any news.
ReplyDeleteI have hardly read our local paper or watched the news, but I've been busy with books at Columbia and reading my own stack from the library. Also, because our microwave died and we are waiting for the new one to be installed, I have changed up my cooking routine. Takes more time, but that's okay.
Next week we are going to visit our grandchildren and watch our grandson perform in his school band. That's where my thoughts are right now.
Ditto. The kids at Prince and my family in 2 weeks then 4 weeks then a new baby. All those books that have been self-renewing, spices to be explored, crafts to finish.... we'll get by.

I am with you, not watching news. But somehow word sneaked in on my computer to let me know that The Onion won the bidding war for Alex Jones' Infowars.
ReplyDeleteI honestly thought it was a prank headline but verified its accuracy on the NY TImes, WaPo, etc., and sure enough it is true. The Onion worked with the families of the Sandy Hook shooting, and they will benefit financially. Which is great because Jones has been faking bankruptcy, etc., to screw them out of the ginormous amount of money that was awarded to them in Jones' trial.
It is not enough, but it made me feel a little better.
Nina
Nope, it's real. Giffords.org is rightly proud of their involvement, so the (fundraising) emails have been announcing it to my inbox with regularity. It does make me feel a little better, too. Each one is a smile and a smack in the face to Alex Jones.

I am following some news, and every day is gets worse.
ReplyDeleteIt is almost impossible to ignore, isn't it. Horror show.
