Is it happening to you, too?
Is watching the news next to impossible? Do you turn to the local news first in the paper, avoiding anything that reflects the critical state of our democracy before you've had your morning coffee?
Do you wonder where to place your allegiance? Does anyone but a Bernie Bro have total confidence in their choice? (For the Grammar Police: I am using their in its new, first person singular, fashion.) Is thinking about it giving you a headache?
I gave myself a pep talk. I have to stop worrying about things over which I have no control.
I can't influence the media to remind people that as of today Bernie has exactly 34 delegates, far short of what he needs. I can't make Donald Trump be any less orange.
I do my best to keep a low carbon footprint while still living my life. I write and call and show up when needed. I read what needs to be read and I share with others. I do what I can do.
Beyond that, I have to stop ruminating about the condition of the world. I've been having weird dreams.
So, last night, TBG and I laughed our way to sleep with My Favorite Year. To be accurate, they were say-the-dialog-along-with-Peter-O'Toole-while-giggling-hysterically laughs. We knew exactly what was coming and could hardly wait for it to get there. We've seen it dozens of times and we've guffawed thousands of times and if you are having trouble with the world writ large, perhaps you can escape into 1950's live television, just as we did.
You can thank me later.
I watch news and quit if it bothers me. It doesn't always.
ReplyDeleteAs for who wins the next election, I am not going to let it bother me no matter who wins. I don't want socialism, see it as an extension of a government that does a lot of things wrong already, BUT if Sanders wins, I am not going to moan about it or be angry for four years. I am going to hope for the best (while I kiss our stock market good bye lol). I'll hope he's right where I am wrong.
At 76, I've seen bad leaders come and go and never is it worth it for me to make my own life less good by getting upset. I think lots of deep breaths and hope for the best-- since I don't believe in prayer for such things.
Sometimes we donate to campaigns but that's not happening this year. I'll vote and then do what I said-- hope for the best no matter who wins. I think in some ways I'd feel better about Sanders than any of the other dems, who have sold out so many ways. At least Sanders believes in what he wants to do. I've seen so many make themselves sick over this stuff and what does it accomplish?
Your answer (esp about Bernie) makes me happy.
DeleteI'm printing it out as a physical reminder to CHILL OUT :-)

I've recently been thinking about a Greek monastery we have visited in the nearby foothills. I think about the sisters there who have no contact with the outside world, spending their days in prayer and work, and I wonder how I would like that. Some days I try to emulate them, but it is hard because I am so interested in the world around me. That's when I pray more and ask God to direct my days.
ReplyDeleteThere are times, my dear, there are times when I, too, want to live within. It doesn't last long, and usually comes on me when I'm in the garden, up to my elbows in soil.

I do physical therapy along with Lester Holt, and fast forward through the bits I don't want to hear. We were watching the PBS newshour, but I've given up on it. Still reading, however. This morning I learned that the WIFE of Justice Thomas is heavily involved in rooting out people considered insufficiently conservative/loyal. It's so good to know that there is so much wisdom being deployed on our behalf.
ReplyDeleteGrrrrrr..... but Sotomayor and Ginsburg should recuse themselves from Trump related cases. Grrrrrrr
DeleteWe fast forward and turn it off more often than not.
My Dad LOVED Gwen Ifill; I turn it on and feel him on the couch.

Balance is hard right now. I find myself feeling very worried about our Democrat candidate selection in light of all of the lawlessness being embraced by the Trump administration. Being busy and physical in the garden helps.
ReplyDeleteBut now we have ANOTHER debate this evening. I'll have to watch, but I don't really want to.
Balance..... both feet on the floor.... evenly.... moving forward.
DeleteRain is probably right; what will be, will be.
