But it was cold and rainy and none of us wanted to be in the garage so I took the boys home and returned to a white cardboard box filled with that-which-I-cannot-resist.
Glazed.... powdered sugar.... cinnamon dusted... cake or air puffed up nearly three inches high... doughnuts are my nemesis. Like Ado Annie, I'm just a girl who cain't say no.
He's done this before, brought irresistible treasures like these into my house. Yes, my house.... my kitchen.... because the smell of them permeates every room and I have no where to hide. This time, I decided to take matters into my own hands - I ate one as soon as I saw them.
It was perfect. Absolutely perfect.
Unfortunately, there were 5 more just like it, sitting there in all their sugary splendor. I forced myself to flee the scene. I was safe, for the moment, at least. But all afternoon, as I wrote postcards and unpacked groceries and made dinner and got fresh bottles of Perrier they stared at me. Through the cardboard carrier, I could feel them calling me.
And so, this afternoon, when he got up with Want a doughnut? from beside me, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
Yes, yes, oh yes I want not one but a dozen doughnuts.......
Doughnuts are my weakness too--especially Krispy Kreme chocolate glazed. Or chocolate-glazed with white creme on the inside. Oh who am I kidding? I love all doughnuts. Because I've been trying to lose weight, hubby is really good about not bringing them into the house. And the ones he does get for the kids are not ones I particularly like. They like those powdered doughnut holes from Dunkin' Donuts.
ReplyDeleteI've been really bad lately with all of the stress in my life. I've had way too many sweets and today, I'm back on my plan. I'm determined to lose the weight I've gained the past year. I was really close to my goal weight in 2015 and then 2016 happened and I gained 15lbs. :(
I don't want to get so out of control that none of my clothes fit. They are snug right now and I refuse to buy new clothes.
Hope you had a great weekend. I owe you a proper thank you note. ;)
Love,
Megan xxx
You are not out of control. You are doing what you can do. (This from a woman who sent you brownies!) Hubs is wonderful to keep them away; TBG was thrilled to finally find something I loved to eat that he could buy for me so it feels somewhat churlish to refuse them :-) And that, Megan, dear, is both true and self-serving!

Interesting that you should post about donuts, and that MS should mention Krispy Kreme in her response...there were donuts at after-chruch coffee fellowship yesterday. Glazed donuts, my favorite, so I took one. Ehh, not all that good. If I'm going to waste calories like that, I want them to taste REALLY good. Then, going into the kitchen I saw the box. Krispy Kreme. Explained it all. I do not like the brand and do not see the attraction. We have all these wonderful Hmong and Vietnamese donut shops in Fresno that make the BEST donuts, why would anyone go to a chain store for donuts.
ReplyDeleteOh, there are certainly donut/doughnut partisans - brands and fillings and spellings! Ours come from The Donut Wheel in Tucson; local and lovely, though Amster doesn't like them AT ALL!
DeleteVive les differences!!

Call me next time in Chicago, and I'll take you on a tour of the best - Do-Rite Donuts, Stan's, Glazed and Infused.
