I Have Nothing New to Say

I wish the talking heads would stop saying the names of the shooters.
I know that their ethnic sounds are code for Radical Muslim Terrorists, or whatever the hell else the Republican candidates are worried about, but to the lonely white-boy-with-a-hoodie and a grudge and a gun, the notoriety must feel pretty sexy.
I wish there wasn't the presumption that He was in charge and that She was merely his wife.
The talking heads are repeating his name and his wife instead of calling them The Shooters and leaving it at that.  By separating them into individuals, it's hard not to conjure up a little bit of sexism in the assumption that it was all his idea.  Women can be evil-doers, too.
Yes, I agree, this is a strange thought to be having.
But the fact of the matter is that there is nothing new to say.  I can only follow my mind as it wanders on the edge of the abyss.
Did you know about Prayer Shaming?
The New York Daily News splashed it loud and clear on the front page, and is standing behind it despite the backlash.
Apparently, the Republicans and the Anti-My-Not-Getting-Shot-Again people are furious that the power of prayer is being disparaged, while missing the point, entirely
The Daily News and I agree that it should be possible both to pray and to pass laws preserving my right not to be perforated.  The newspaper wasn't saying Don't Pray; they were demanding that the cowards DO MORE.
Isn't it possible for the Republican candidates to worry about Radical Muslim Terrorists invading our shores while at the same time attempting to make it more difficult for them to stockpile guns and ammunition once they are here?
As I warned you, I had nothing new to say.

  1. I listened to Limbaugh while in the car yesterday and he was pushing that Democrats were disparaging prayer. I knew he had his talking points. I doubt he puts them out but the right parrots them all. This was a deliberate twisting of the meaning of words. Nothing new for the far right though. The good thing about him is I can turn him off. When it's political leaders doing it, those elected by a slice of the population, that's harder to take as how do I turn them off!

    1. You support the opposition (sorry, Bernie Sanders). You demand that your friends and neighbors actually exercise the franchise and put their votes where their outrage is. You are unrelenting in your outspokenness. That, I think, is how we "turn them off," Rain.

There are so many of them that the message is repeated over and over and over again (yes, that was the "talking point" and it makes me nuts) so it seems as if "everyone" agrees. But Hilary (and I can't believe I am touting her here in The Burrow) was spot on - furious, loud, impassioned and right - evenif her clip only ran once.

Frustrated. Furious. Full of the good fight, though.

    2. Yes! "Unrelenting" is the word. And you mail a copy of today's NYT Page 1 editorial to every elected official. None of their excuses matter.

Has America lost its sense of dignity? THAT is a grown up question, don't you think?

  2. Nothing new...but in my what-passes-for-prayers, may the world listen and understand. This needs to be widely published.

    1. Feel free to share the link with friends and family and newsletters and book clubs. The fact that polls show the majority of Americans favoring sensible legislative action seems to have no effect on the Republican clown car. That is because most of us on this end of the argument don't bother to go out and vote.

We need to put our ballots and our dollars where our outrage lies. Anything I can do to help.....

  3. None of us has anything new to say but you said it better...as usual. I am so sorry that you and so many others have to re-live this crap over and over and over and over ...............And membership in that particular club, which nobody wants to belong to, just keeps growing!

  4. You know my POV. I'm so tired of this being normal. This cannot be normal and we cannot live this way. I'm tired of the prayers. I want action! Do SOMETHING/ANYTHING to stop this from happening over and over again.

    Have a good weekend.

    1. It takes everyone being energized to vote the bastards out. Plain and simple. Yes, in fact, I do have a litmus test.

  5. Earlier today the NYT reported new details that make it seem that the wife WAS the mastermind and moving force. Ugh....
    Thinking of you.

    1. Yes, you have visited and commented, Linda. I can't believe I am agreeing with you on this but I will find myself working for her not b/c of gender or reproductive rights or her experience and in spite of her lack of a moral compass simply b/c she is so passionate about the issue.

I'm a new grandma, too. I am much more furious than I was 16 months ago.

  8. Very glad Olga shared. You sure made an excellent point -- the media assumed he was in control. Now it is certainly looking the other way around. The World has become a very scary place.

    1. I spend every day fighting the terror.... and I was just standing outside a grocery store.....
I'm reminded of Oct, 1962, only it's lasting longer than a week or so.

  9. Popped over from Olga's shoutout. It is a terrible situation in the US, as well as Canada.
    Too many guns.
We, happily, have settled a family of 14 from Syria not too far away in southern Ontario. They are from rural Syria and have fit in. They have jobs for the father, and the community have really stepped up. It gives me hope.
